With indoor trampoline parks like Sky Zone popping up all over the country, we recently decided to reach out to Eva Talbert, General Manager of Sky Zone Moorestown who explained how a trampoline workout can not only transform your body but your entire attitude towards boring old fitness routines.
Fitness Cult Chronicles: Tell us a little more about how a cardio trampoline workout can transform your body...
Sky Zone Moorestown: SkyRobics is low impact and combines advanced calisthenics, core exercises, and strength building aerobics. SkyRobics has several health values to it that work to transform your body both inside and out.
Benefits to using SkyRobics as a healthy lifestyle include*:
- Fights fatigue by strengthening the lymphatic, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems.
- Helps relieve pain in the joins, neck, back and head through increased circulation.
- Conditions and strengthens the heart which lowers the resting heart rate.
- Provides an extremely effective low impact exercise, good for those with less mobility and those undergoing rehabilitation.
- Lowers cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
- Increases metabolism, which assists the body in burning more calories.
- Increases the performance of both the heart and the circulatory system.
- SkyRobics specifically stimulates the flow of the lymph fluid through the lymphatic system. The change in gravitational forces allows for greater blood flow and increases the amount of waste and toxins flushed from the body.
- SkyRobics will enhance digestion, relaxation, sleep patterns, nerve impulse, and muscle response.
- SkyRobics can significantly reduce blood pressure.

FC^2: What are the major differences between your Skyrobics and Skyfit classes and which would you recommend for someone who is new to this type of workout?
SZM: SkyRobics is cardio based with intervals of strength training. It will also take place on our main court, which allows the class to have a maximum of 40 participants. These classes are held at time that we are closed to the public.
SkyFit is core training with intervals of cardio. This class takes place on one our smaller dodgeball courts, and is restricted to a maximum of 16 people. These classes are held during days where we are open to the public (or during toddler time).
It is hard to say which class would be best for new guests looking to do a work out class. However both classes accommodate both beginner to expert levels, as individuals can make their class easier or harder, based what they feel they can do. Simply making ones’ jump higher, and bringing knees higher up, (depending on the activity) will make the class harder, or doing the opposite respectively will make the class easier.
Instructors are more than happy to give alternative exercises to accommodate what someone is looking for level wise. Class selection for beginners also has to do with what type of exercise they wish to accomplish. Because of the smaller court, there is significantly less cardio then the SkyRobics classes where the instructor will typically use the length of main court to do laps.
FC^2: Is there some sort of certification one would have to go through to become a Skyrobics or Skyfit instructor?
SZM: We pick our instructors based on their fitness background. Currently there is no specific certification that is needed to be a teacher, so we try to choose individuals that are used to teaching in a group fitness atmosphere. We also ask anyone who is interested in becoming a teacher to take both classes we offer several times, as well as co-teach if needed before having them teach by themselves. Displayed skills that we like to see in our instructors include voice projection, explanation of exercises, smooth class transitions, friendliness and interaction with students.
FC^2: Since opening, what kind of response have you seen from the community?
SZM: Response has been good since opening. Guests will always say that they think the classes are really great and fun, but also a very challenging workout. We have many of our first time fitness class guests love their first class so much that they purchase a 10 class pass when they are done!
FC^2: Describe your primary clientele - do you have a good mix of adults and children who come to use the facility?
SZM: Our primary clientele for fitness classes is adult women. However that being said, almost all the men who have come to take the class are the most surprised on how hard you can make your workout. We mostly try to keep our fitness classes for age 16 and older. We have also hosted many workout clubs and sports team in the classes to switch up their regular workout routine and they have responded very positively.
FC^2: Tell us a little more about your Ultimate Dodgeball and Sky Slam activities...
SZM: Ultimate Dodgeball, Sky Slam, as well as the Foam Zone are all activities available for our open jumpers.
Sky Zone is the creator of the Ultimate 3D dodgeball experience, where we try to have at least one public court available daily for pick-up games (however, dodgeball is not guaranteed. Games are separated based on size. Yearly Sky Zone’s nationwide host the Ultimate Dodgeball Championship (UDC). Although it already happened this year, full coverage of the past championship is now airing on Fox Sports Net, with the first episode just passing on 11/13/14. Replays of the episodes can be found at youtube.com/ultimatedodgeball.
Sky Slam are our high flying basketball nets where both kids and adults alike can mimic their favorite NBA stars showing us their best dunks. There three size hoops that we provide, that our guests use according to size.
Finally we have our Foam Zone as our last additional area besides our main jumping court. Filled with over 10,000 foam cubes guest can jump, fly and flip into the nice pillow like cushion.
FC^2: Are there any special upcoming events that you have planned?
SZM: For fitness specifically we do not have any solidified events planned at this current moment in time, however there is a possibility that we may host a Biggest Loser challenge at the start of the new year. This will be a content for our guests to reach their goals, in hopes to win awesome prizes like free GetFit Passes or monthly workout classes.
